"And the whole multitude sought to touch Him: for there went power out of Him, and healed them all." [Lk 6:19]
In reading this verse, where, “the whole multitude sought to touch Him,” we are reminded of elsewhere in the gospels where this occurred. Take, for instance, the woman who had the running flow of blood for twelve years. “She said within herself, if I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole.” [Mt 9:21] And because she acted in faith, trusting in the power of Christ, from just a single touch, “immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.” [Mk 5:29] And again, it is written, “and [they] besought Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.” [Mt 14:36] As it was prophesied, so it has come to pass, and remains true even today: “but unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in both hems of His garment…” [Mal 4:2]
What are you seeking after today? Healing? Direction? Power to live a Godly life? What is it of Christ that you seek? For there are no limits to His power and strength; He is able, even a thousand times over, to do anything that is needed, and He is very willing to help us, for God “hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things for the church[‘s sake].” [Eph 1:22] Whatever it is that you have need of, if it be in the will of God, go to the feet of Jesus with great confidence. As those people of old sought out Christ Jesus “to touch Him: for there went power out of Him,” so too may you seek out Jesus for just a touch. As the woman under the table sought for just a measly crumb of what Jesus had to offer, confident that even a crumb would suffice for her needs, so too all we need is just one touch. One touch from the powerful Messiah, our King, our Shepherd, our Groom, our Lord – yes, just one touch is all that we need.
Praise God. And praise God again; for Jesus is not just a passerby in the crowd for us. We are His possession; His bride; His people; His children. He is not far off; we do not have to think or be anxious about if Jesus will show up today. He is here; He is near. “Thou art near, O LORD.” [Psa 119:151] And if you do not presume Him to be near, seek Him still; for, it says, “draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” [Jam 4:8] Jesus is near to us, and His power is available. Let us therefore reach out toward Him to lay hold of His garment, in faith that if we but chance one touch of Christ we shall be healed, or get wisdom, or whatsoever good thing we seek.
