Generously, Freely Satisfied

"The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek The LORD shall not want any good thing." [Psa 34:10]

In the prophets, it is written, “thus saith The LORD unto the house of Israel, seek ye me, and ye shall live.” [Amo 5:4] And in the Psalms likewise, “…your heart shall live that seek God;” [Psa 69:32] and again, “the meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise The LORD that seek Him: your heart shall live for ever.” [Psa 22:26] The LORD is such, His goodness is so effectual and marvelous, that even the mere seeking of Him brings life: eternal, unending life to the heart and soul. Truly, as it is written, “thy paths drop abundance.” [Psa 65:11] Those paths which are God’s, and thus lead to Him, drop abundance. For those who are on those paths, pursuing after/seeking The LORD, they shall experience that abundant life which Jesus promised, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” [Jn 10:10] The abundant life of God is found in the pursuit of Him; that is, the seeking of Him. And let us also be careful to note, and we shall be blessed if we do, that Amos and others do not write, (under influence of The Spirit), that the man who finds The LORD shall find life; nor do they admonish that only the man who understands God perfectly shall have life. No, but they simply and gloriously state what The LORD says, “seek ye me, and ye shall live.”

Are you seeking The LORD, dear reader? You may say, “yes; however, I do not feel as though I seek Him well.” Or, “though I seek Him, yet I do not find Him or understand Him well.” Yes, that may be so, but what does God encourage us with? He simply states that it is the very act of seeking Him that brings life. It is the very act of a man who gets up onto those paths of The LORD which drop abundance and who sets his face toward Christ, who shall find life. He may not immediately see, understand, or know Him well, but he seeks Him. And it is that which is rewarded with life.

It is this practice of seeking The Lord to which we draw our attention today. In the Psalms we read further that even “the young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek The LORD shall not want any good thing.” Even the ferocious beasts and kings of the wild lack and suffer hunger. Even they have needs and wants. Though they puff themselves up, and though they strive for meat; yet, many nights they come back empty. Yes, even those bloodthirsty animals, fitted for hunting, go without. Yet, The LORD says that the man who seeks The LORD shall not lack any good thing. If there is any good, the man who seeks God in sincerity shall find it. And if that man says, “I have sought The Lord and yet I am lacking this thing,” then we may conclude that thing was not good nor necessary. The LORD is our shepherd and we are not lacking; those who seek The Lord shall have no lack.

What a wonderful word for us today. For there are young lions among us today who lack and suffer hunger, and yet we, in our souls and hearts, go fully satisfied in Christ, being filled with His life. There are those of this world, who like the wild lions, pursue with ferocity the wealth and materials of this world. They are fitted for such, and they know the game well; and yet, even they have lack: yes, for though they may find the money or power they seek, yet none can satisfy their own souls save the man who sets His face to seek Jesus. Jesus says, “he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” [Jn 6:35] May we praise God for this truth. For all we need is found in Christ. We are complete in Him. He is the one who gives us life. We do not need to, as the world, to hungrily and hastily pursue the things of this life as a lion hunting prey; for we can be satisfied deep within our souls from seeking Jesus.

This word signifies to us the great nature and character of Christ. For if one were to seek after and acquire a relationship, for instance, and the other party were a cheat, a liar, and an overall terrible person, then no doubt the man who sought such a relationship would at the last go away discouraged and empty. And again, the man who seeks alcohol, money, or anything else the world has to offer, will always come away in the end whimpering and hurt, for nothing the world offers can give true life. But it is Jesus alone, because of His glory and His goodness, because of His blessed character, that shall satisfy eternally all who seek after Him. For in stark contrast to the world’s blessings/promises, it says, “the blessing of The LORD, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it.” [Prov 10:22]
