"Who can utter the mighty acts of The LORD? Who can shew forth all His praise?" [Psa 106:2]
The LORD is “plenteous in mercy.” [Psa 86:5] He is abounding in mercy, compassion, pity. Whatever sweetness you have experienced thus far of God’s mercy, there is yet more, for “His mercy is everlasting.” [Psa 100:5] Whatever part of His mercy The Spirit has led you to, whatever depths that He has led you into heretofore, whether to the ankles or to the thighs or to the chest, be assured and be encouraged, that there is yet a thousand-fold deeper of His mercies which are available to know and to love. But it is not just God’s mercy that is this way. As the earth’s depth and heaven’s height cannot be searched out, so too the love of Christ, the grace of God, yes and any other quality of God, cannot fully be searched out. Our God is everlasting, the great I Am, the Beginning and the End. We are thus encouraged, “that in the ages to come [The Father] might shew [to us] the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” [Eph 2:7] In all the ages to come, infinity of infinities, everlasting age upon everlasting age, God is going to be showing us of His graces. There shall never be an ounce of boredom in heaven, for we shall be eternally enveloped in the beauty and glories of our God and His Son Jesus Christ. Again, we are similarly encouraged about God’s intense and steadfast love/faithfulness, when The LORD says,
“Thus saith The LORD; if heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith The LORD.” [Jer 31:37]
Whether it is in regard to God’s love or His mercy, to His grace or to His power – as our verse today rhetorically states, “who can utter the mighty acts of The LORD? Who can shew forth all His praise?” The LORD’s mighty works, His glorious acts, His wise dealings – none of them can by any means be searched out in full. Our Great God has accomplished a great and countless myriad of awesome works. This is even show to us in John, where he speaks of Jesus’ life on earth, writing,
“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” [Jn 21:25]
Even in Jesus’ short, three or four-year ministry, there were so many miracles, so many wonderful acts, so many lives touched, that if each one were written down, they would fill up the libraries of earth tens and even hundreds of times over. Jesus accomplished more in His ministry on earth than all other Christians for all of time combined. Jesus touched and influenced so many lives and did so many things, that it were like the harvest of wheat in Joseph’s day wherein “he left numbering; for it was without number;” [Gen 41:49] or like the building materials of Solomon’s temple which David prepared, how it says, “of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number…” [1 Ch 22:16] May God be praised, for He, “the God of Israel…only doeth wondrous things.” [Psa 72:18] It is not possible for The Lord Jesus, who is God, to do anything other than a wondrous, awe-inspiring thing; and His ministry on earth was pregnant with wonderful, Spirit-led, flawless acts. And praise God again, for though not all of Jesus’ acts were written down, yet each of them are known to God deeply and intimately; for, “known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world.” [Acts 15:18] Though not all the stories of what The Lord Jesus did, nor what God has done throughout the ages, can be written down, (for in doing so we must fill a thousand world’s libraries full), yet each of them are known and remembered of God. And each person touched, though not all recorded for us, had each of them a special, individual, authentic encounter with the Living God.
