"Commit thy way unto The LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass." [Psa 37:5]
The LORD “is wonderful in counsel, and great in wisdom.” [Isa 28:29] Any situation we should find ourselves in, The LORD is well prepared to offer counsel, well prepared to give wisdom. He is the very source of wisdom – “The LORD giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” [Prov 2:7] The LORD, “hath made the earth by His power, He hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion;” [Jer 10:12] and there is nothing too hard or too complicated for Him: “His understanding is infinite,” [Psa 147:5] and, “there is no searching of His understanding.” [Isa 40:28] As The LORD Himself has said, “is anything too hard for The LORD?” [Gen 18:14] The answer, of course, is no: for again, “the things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” [Lk 18:27] And that which is difficult or hard to understand with man is likewise possible with God, for His ways and thoughts are far above our own.
With these thoughts regarding God’s wisdom, intelligence, and ability, let us view again the verse for today. But first, it would give us more understanding and encouragement to expand upon two of the words: “commit,” and “bring it to pass,” which phrase is one, single Hebrew word. The former, commit, literally means “to roll;” and the latter phrase, literally means “be working.” We therefore read, “roll thy way unto The LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall be working.” Just as when one rolls a ball to another, the ball thus coming out of his control and into another’s, so too let us roll our way unto The LORD. Let us remove our hands off our way, and give it to The LORD. Let us relinquish control over the situation or over the thing which The LORD has given to us, and allow Him to work upon it and/or work with it. As long as we maintain control, The LORD may not be working; but when we roll our way unto the LORD and trust in Him, that He is able, well-fitted unto whatever occasion arises, as the Psalms says, “He shall be working.”
This should encourage us greatly, for if The LORD, whom we have seen to be very wise and powerful, is working on our problems, working on that person, then we have nothing to worry about. It is as when we hire or give some task to another who has proved himself in the past to be very reliable. Does anyone worry when they call for help by an experienced, well-respected, well-reviewed handyman? Or does a boss worry when putting a project into the hands of an established and tried employee? Or do they not rather rest at ease, knowing that the problem is in another’s hands, another’s hands who is experienced and able, so that they need not worry? And should it not be such with us and our God? For our God is infinitely wise, and powerful too. He has never shown Himself to be anything less. Therefore, let us take our things, take our ways and trust in Him, rolling our way to Him, that He might be working on it and thus not we ourselves. And if The LORD is the one who is working, we do not need to worry.
