"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." [1 Jn 4:4]
As it stands presently, satan is “the god of this world,” [2 Cor 4:4] who in great contrast to the “right sceptre” [Psa 45:6] of Jesus’ kingdom, holds men in bondage and keeps them from coming to the light of Christ. He is “the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience,” [Eph 2:2] provoking and urging them to live in sin. He is a wicked ruler, harsh and bitter, who, in similarity to Pharaoh, who “made the children of Israel to serve with rigour,” [Ex 1:13] makes his subjects slaves to sin, lust, and all other manner of lewd things. However, though satan rules earth today, it will not always be so. For, “the night is far spent, [and] the day is at hand,” [Rom 13:12] and satan “knoweth that he hath but a short time.” [Rev 12:12] His days are numbered, and soon that glorious day when The Lord Jesus “shall slay the dragon that is in the sea” [Isa 27:1] shall come and “the devil that deceived them [will be] cast into the lake of fire and brimstone…and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” [Rev 20:10] And on that beautiful day of redemption and restoration, when Christ rules, satan shall be king no longer, but shall sink down into the lowest pit: not as a prince, but as a worm, as The Spirit says through Isaiah,
“Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. How art thou fallen from heaven, O lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God…yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit…But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch…as a carcase trodden under feet.” [Isa 14:11-13, 15, 19]
This victory our Lord achieves shall be easy for Him: done even with a single word. The enemy is no match for our Great King; Jesus’ power is above all others. As it is written, “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” [1 Jn 4:4]
The strength of God compared to satan is much like that of a dad and his child. The dad and the child may play and may wrestle, they may play tug-of-war; and the father may feign for a moment that his child has the upper hand, but at the very last, with one, great pull, the father can win the game. And if between a father and child, how much more between God and satan, who do not duel as if they were equals nor fight as if satan ever had one iota of a chance of winning? Dear Christian reader, do you see satan victorious in your life? Do you see yourself defeated? Do you see evil having the upper hand? Fear not, for it is but a short while longer until Jesus Christ, our strong King who is stronger than he, returns to earth with that sharp sword coming from His mouth and slays the red dragon who did weaken the nations. Jesus shall come, and with one, great sweeping shot shall annihilate the evil king once-and-for-all. Satan has no upper-hand; nor does he achieve any true victory in the Christians’ life: for Jesus Christ in us is greater than he, and as it is written, “and the God of peace shall bruise satan under your feet shortly;” [Rom 16:20] and, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against [the church].” [Mt 16:18]
