"… he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee." [Job 36:4b]
It is immeasurably comforting for those of us who are saved that we have the living Christ dwelling in our hearts by faith. The one “in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge;” [Col 2:3] and from whose “mouth cometh knowledge and understanding,” [Prov 2:6] has taken up residence in our hearts. We have, by His Spirit, who is “The Spirit of Wisdom,” [Isa 11:2] free and immediate access to Christ’s very own heart and mind and the wisdom therein contained, for it is promised to us, “we have the mind of Christ.” [1 Cor 2:16] Truly, if we ask in faith, we shall obtain a liberal supply of this wisdom. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and reproacheth not; and it shall be given him.” [Jam 1:5] It is God’s good pleasure to give us this wisdom; He does not cling to it stingily as men of this world often do, but freely gives it to us; for “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from The Father of Lights,” who has said, “yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good.” [Jam 1:17, Jer 32:41] Because of this we can confidently approach Him for knowledge, understanding, or wisdom; he shall not reproach us, but will welcome us, and bestow liberally that desired wisdom from His treasure-house.
Let us reflect upon this and look to God for wisdom, let us remember that it is He, the Author of knowledge and wisdom, the fount and pure source of wisdom’s flowing brook, which dwells in our heart and is with us forever. And let us remember God’s stern warning to those who would seek wisdom at the world’s mouth before His own:
“Woe to the rebellious children, saith The LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin: that walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.” [Isa 30:1-3]
But if we seek wisdom and knowledge at God’s mouth, by sincere devotion and inquiry into His word, in close pursuit of His person, let us rejoice and find peace; for His “paths drop abundance” [Psa 65:11] and He who “is perfect in knowledge” shall surely answer us, for He is with us and has promised, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” [Psa 32:8]
It is a most comforting truth that the one who is perfect in knowledge is with us. We need not look far nor worry for guidance because Christ Himself, who is perfect in knowledge and who is called “Wonderful, Counsellor,” [Isa 9:6] is with us and “hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” [Heb 13:5]
