"And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead." [Acts 10:39-41]

In this passage, there is something simple yet beautiful regarding Jesus’ character. When Jesus rose from the dead, He only ever appeared to those who loved Him and desired to fellowship with Him. Jesus did not appear to His enemies, nor those who hated Him, nor those who were neutral toward Him; but Jesus appeared to His friends and disciples, to those “who did eat and drink with Him after He rose from the dead.” It is a simple thought, but a powerful one, for it shows us the glory of Christ. Jesus did not appear to His enemies to say, “told you so!” He did not appear to them to scorn them, or prove Himself to them, but He left them alone. For us, this is a most striking fact.

When the flesh receives opportunity, often it loves to say, “told you so!” to those who hurt it or offended it; often the flesh desires to prove itself to those who formerly disbelieved or mocked it. However, this is not the attitude that Jesus shows us. So then, let us be like Christ, like us be meek and forbear from this type of retaliation.
