The Careful Love of Our Father

Weeding and trimming bushes for an elderly couple.

As I was trimming bushes, I had to be precise/careful, as to not cut off any flowers. Because of this, I did not use hedge trimmers and was able to find a small bird in the bush. The bird was kept safe by God, for in The LORD’s hand “is the soul of every living thing.” Jesus also makes mention to God’s care of animals, using birds as an example. He says,

"Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." [Mt 10:29-31]

"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" [Mt 6:25-26]

Jesus gives us comfort and encouragement through these words. If God takes thought for little birds, how much more for us whom He gave His Only Son for?! Truly, God cares very much for us. Paul speaks of this as well, showing us logically that The Lord will give us everything we need to fulfill our Christian goal: to be made like His Son, Jesus:

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" [Rom 8:28-32]

Our Father has a very deep love and care for us. This is because He created us in HIs Own image and for His own pleasure, which thing is worked out most perfectly in Jesus Christ. The Bible says The LORD is He who “took [us] out of the womb” and who “covered [us] in [our] mother’s womb[s].” David writes,

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. hine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them." [Psa 139:14-16]

The LORD has known us and has chosen us before we were ever made in our mother’s womb. And even more than that, David says God has “precious” thoughts toward us, which “are more in number than the sand.” [Psa 139:17-18]

The love of our Father toward us is so great because of Jesus. For those in Jesus Christ, grafted into God’s family, nothing can separate us from His love toward us in Christ Jesus. Truly, if God so cares for animals, He cares much more for us.
