Redeemed Through Judgment

Jesus redeems us by God’s judgement on him. The cup which Jesus drank, praying, “let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” was the very wrath of God we deserved for our sins. Our offences against a holy God were cast upon His Son, “whom God hath set forth to be an appeasement for wrath through faith in His blood” [Rom 3:25] and “who was delivered for our offences.” Isaiah prophesies,

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." [Isa 53:5-6]

"...for the transgression of my people was he stricken." [Isa 53:8]

"Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities." [Isa 53:10-11]

Jesus endured all the wrath of God without mercy on our behalf. Hebrews says,

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." [Heb 2:9]

Jesus experienced spiritual death for us. In those three hours when “there was darkness over all the land” Jesus experienced total separation from God. For He cried out,

"Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" [Mt 27:46]

Jesus did this for us. He endured it all. He drank every drop of The Fathers cup of wrath. The death we deserved as wicked men Jesus paid, becoming sin for us. Psalms says,

"For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them." [Psa 75:8]

Because Jesus bore it all for us, we can obtain mercy from The LORD. The only reason The Father can be merciful to us is because He had no mercy upon Jesus. The only reason The Father can take pity upon us as sons is because He took no pity upon His Only Begotten Son.

CONCLUSION

Thank and praise the One who died and rose again to never die again; He has obtained such glorious victory for us, that we would be able to have perfect peace with The Father through His blood; that we would be able to spend eternity with Him, getting to know Him more.
