“Repaying” The Lord

Of course we cannot repay The Lord for what He has done for us, and Jesus doesn’t expect us to: He didn’t save us so that we could repay Him. Paul says that what Jesus has accomplished for us through salvation is God’s “unspeakable gift.” As Jacob said in Genesis, truly, “[we are] not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant[s].”

But what can we do? After all, Jesus has done so much for us! He is so worthy! Look at what David says in the Psalms,

"What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord." [Psa 116:12-13]

Instead of trying to pay back God with works, earning salvation (which can’t be done), or paying Him back through purity, or with money/gifts, The Lord wants something completely different. He wants us to call upon Him! What a wonderful thing; what a beautiful God we have. Every one of us can call upon The Lord, and who wouldn’t want to call upon His sweet name. He Himself tells us, “And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” [Psa 50:15]
