Written in Heaven

We have a glorious promise from Jesus, who tells us, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.” [Rev 3:5] Those who are overcoming will not be blotted out of Jesus’ book of life! John tells us this means we have faith that Jesus is the Son of God.

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" [1 Jn 5:4-5]

And Jesus promises us further saying that we will be like a pillar in God’s temple; unshakable, unmovable – never to go out of The Lord’s glorious presence again! And He will not only write us in His book of life, but we will also have imprinted upon ourselves His name in a symbolism of His ownership of us!

"Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and i will write upon him my new name." [Rev 3:12]

John tells us in one of his epistles, “…the world is passing away, and the lust thereof: but he that is doing the will of God abideth forever.” Those who are doing the will of God abide forever. They will forever be etched in heaven. As Hebrews says, we are come “to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect…” In the words of Jesus,

"All that the Father giveth me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent Me, that of all which He hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." [Jn 6:37-40]

And we are to rejoice in this more than any other thing! For Jesus told His disciples, “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, becuase your names are written in heaven.” [Lk 10:20]

We want our names written in heaven! And those who overcome to the very end will not have their names blotted out of the book of life in heaven! But in grim contrast Jeremiah writes, “O Lord, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters.” [Jer 17:13] Those who do not endure in faith in Jesus will be written in the earth. John foresees this tragic end in Revelation,

"The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is." [Rev 17:8]

"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" [Rev 20:15]

"And there shall in no wise enter into [The Holy City, New Jerusalem] any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." [Rev 21:27]

CONCLUSION

Do not forsake The Fountain of Living Waters, but continue steadfastly in Jesus, abiding in Him, having faith in Him. Have your name written in heaven not in the earth! The earth fades away, but heaven endures to everlasting and everlasting! Amen.

"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." [1 Thess 5:23-24]

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." [Jude 24-25]
