Young Men’s Bible Study, Section III, Part XI

Forgiveness & Mercy

Section III, overview: The glory of Jesus Christ, in an applicable sense, is His character: it is who He is. The beholding of and pursuit of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ ought to be the Christian man’s chief enjoyment and focus. It is through this vital act that we are conformed and transformed into His glorious image; through this overriding passion our lives are transformed and the image of Jesus which we reflect becomes clearer. Our lives are given purpose, strength, peace, hope, love, and all other good things when we fixedly place our gaze on our King, Shepherd, Groom, Mediator, and Savior – Jesus Christ. Jesus’ life is the ultimate blueprint for any man’s life. His glorious character far outshines every single person ever to live, and so we will look at His character, His glory, and find therein great and vital instruction for our lives, as well as magnificent encouragement.

The Lord Jesus was full of mercy and forgiveness to those who were His enemies, those who failed Him, who came short of God’s standards, who sinned against Him, who hated Him. Jesus treated all those who were around Him far better than they deserved. And shall not we, as men, seek to show such mercy and forgiveness to those around us, even when they do us wrong? A true man is tender and soft towards others, forgiving and covering over offences done against his person, reputation, property, etc., because he has experienced God’s forgiveness and love.
